Formed in the Dallas–Fort Worth area in late 2019, El Chanclazo is a musical collective made up of Latin American musicians specializing in a wide range of traditional and contemporary Latin American genres. Co-led by Mariana Grahl (vocals) and Pepe Valdez (guitar and musical director), El Chanclazo is committed to preserving and sharing a carefully curated repertoire; music they believe is meaningful, culturally important, and a true joy to perform.

Moving effortlessly through boleros, valses, rancheras, sones, rumbas, cumbias, huapangos, and chacareras, El Chanclazo invites audiences into what they lovingly call a night of “Bohemia.” When Mariana and Pepe met in 2019, they quickly discovered a shared musical spirit. Though Mariana hails from northern Mexico and Pepe from Lima, Peru, both were shaped by traditions rooted in beautiful compositions, gatherings of friends, spirited drinks, good food, and a deep love for music and culture. Drawing from the best of their respective backgrounds, they began building a repertoire that is both diverse and deeply personal; music they genuinely love and care for.

Completing the group are Efren “Chiquis” Guzman on percussion and Carlos “Fifo” Rengifo on bass, who form the rhythmic foundation and heartbeat of the band. Each brings a rich musical background and unique perspective, contributing greatly to El Chanclazo’s sound, versatility, and unmistakable groove.

With the collective experience of four of Dallas’ most accomplished Latin musicians and an undeniable passion for the music they perform, El Chanclazo offers audiences an authentic and vibrant celebration of Latin American culture. Whether you are discovering this music for the first time, returning to familiar sounds, or reconnecting with your roots, an evening with El Chanclazo is an invitation to listen, share, and experience something truly special.
